2018 Stinger

A few years ago, Kia unveiled the GT4 Stinger, a bold concept born out of Kia’s Southern California design studio. The automaker this week took the wraps off a production version of said car, and it looks gorgeous.

The Stinger GT is a rear-wheel-drive sedan with 365 horsepower, a 3.3 liter, twin-turbo V6, and a supposed 0-60 mph time in just 5.1 seconds. And it looks damn good, too. More like something from BMW than out of a Kia design lab.

The man in charge of the Stinger is Peter Schreyer, who happens to be a former Audi man. While it does take cues from a lot of competitors, the Stinger still offers an attractive vehicle. And it’ll apparently be loud. Louder than versions made for Europe.

“Unlike any Kia that has come before it, the Stinger really is a dream car for us, and here today in Detroit, the dream is now a reality after years of commitment and hard work from a passionate group of designers, engineers and executives around the world,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, Kia Motors America. “From its GT concept-car origins to the years of tuning and refining on the legendary Nurburgring circuit, no detail was too small to be obsessed over, and the result is simply stunning.”

No manual

The only bad part (that we can see) is that the Stinger only comes in automatic, which is a bummer for folks who want the control of a manual. For now, fans can expect the automatic to be the only option, but, who knows, maybe consumer demand will warrant the introduction of a special edition.

It’s unclear when the Stinger GT is set to be released or even how much it’ll cost, but we’ll have those details as soon as they’re made available.
